The Cotswolds, preserved as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretches from Bath in the south to Chipping Campden and Broadway in the north, and from Gloucester and Cheltenham in the west to Oxford in the east.
Bath, Cirencester and Gloucester were important Roman towns, whilst the 'wools towns' of Northleach, Stow-on-the-Wold and Chipping Campden owe their growth to the prosperity of the wool trade of the 14th. and 15th. centuries.
Magnificent churches, honey-coloured stone cottages with thatched or stone roofs, and dry-stone walls are as much of the Cotswolds landscape as the gently rolling hills and the crystal clear waters of the valley streams.
